Metabolism In Neuroinflammatory Diseases

While lipids have a negative reputation, they are crucial for proper functioning of our body. Especially in the brain, that consists for the major part of lipids, they have a vital role. Lipids influence neurodegenerative disorders like multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer's disease in both positive and negative ways. Our team is dedicated to uncover key pathways in lipid metabolism involved in brain diseases that can serve as a target to develop more effective therapies. Additionally, we determine how our diet and dietary lipids shape these metabolic processes to understand their impact on health and disease.

Wednesday January 21st, the kick-off meeting for the new Clinical Nutrition course took place. During this meeting, instructors and involved partners came together to further align on the content, structure, and interuniversity collaboration.

The Clinical Nutrition program is an interuniversity micro-credential organized by University of Brussel, University of Antwerp, Hasselt University, KU Leuven, and Ghent University. It is aimed at physicians, (hospital) pharmacists, biomedical scientists, and other healthcare professionals, offering a multidisciplinary, evidence-based education on nutrition in various clinical contexts.

With this program, we aim to contribute to better recognition and management of nutritional issues in healthcare, highlighting the importance of proper nutrition as an essential component of high-quality patient care.

The micro-credential starts in February 2026 and combines online learning with on-campus classes. Places are limited.
